Xian: brief description for tourists who wish to visit Xian Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province, is positioned on the Guanzhong Plain in the central- northwest China. Hua Shan, a sacred Taoist mountain, is located 120 km to the east of the city. Xian is one of the oldest cities in China, with 3,200 years of history and was one of Four Ancient Capitals of China (besides Beijing, Nanjing, Luoyang). Xian is famous in the world for its Terracotta Army (Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses), the terracotta sculptures modelling on the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China (to protect the emperor in his afterlife). The Terracotta Army is visitable for tourists inside the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum, soldiers and horses are still in the original pits where they where found. Another very important thing in Xian are the remains of the ancient city walls. The original walls were completed in 190 BCE and had a length of 25.7 km. The ancient walls of Xian are among the best preserved remains of ancient China and so they are very interesting for tourists. Since 1990, the city has had a remarkable economic development and has made ??significant progress in cultural, industrial and education. The principal shopping area of Xian is the Bell Tower & Drum Tower Commercial Center, the area is composed by 4 famous streets, the East, South, North and West Street.
