Suzhou(Jiangsu): brief description for tourists who wish to visit Suzhou(Jiangsu) Suzhou is an important city, located at the east of China in the southeast of Jiangsu Province, with a population of about 7 million people. More precisely, it lies in the lower reach of the Yangtze River and on the shores of Taihu Lake. Suzhou is an old city with more than 2,500 years of history, very famous for its gardens, its architecture and its canals. For the many waterways that flow into the city, with small bridges and the houses on the banks ('pillowed on water's edge'), is also called the 'Venice of the East'. The Garden of the Humble Administrator is the most important and it is the largest garden in the south of China. Other famous garden are Lingering Garden, Blue Wave Pavilion, Garden of the Master of the Nets, the Lion Grove rock garden. The ancient gardens of Suzhou are in the lists of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Suzhou is also home of traditional performing arts as Kunqu Opera, Suzhou Opera and Ballad singing, well valued both from Chinese and foreigners, for harmonic melodies and acting very accurate.
