Located on the coast of southeastern China (opposite Taiwan), Fuzhou has a population of about 8 million people and is the capital of Fujian Province. Fuzhou is a beautiful city founded 2000 years ago that boasts many vestiges of the past as well as landscapes of great natural charm. Fuzhou was one of major ports of China (important also for foreign trade) and has a long tradition as a center of shipbuilding.
The city of Fuzhou has a history of over 2000 years and was known as Minyue, by the Emperor of Han Dynasty. Today it has lasted many battles and thousands of years and is as intact as it was before. It is now a major port and also a big shipbuilding center. Apart from its historic attraction, the city holds a lot of interest even among the tourist. Fuzhou has some of the most beautiful attractions, but all lie on the suburbs of the city. One can bask in the glory of the mountain scenery and is famous for a number of temples that lie near the mountains.
Tourist should never miss the various attractions that Fuzhou has to offer. You can start with Hakka earth houses, three lanes and seven alleys, Gu mountain scenic area are some of the attractions that offer variety to tourists.
Qingyunshan Mountain
This scenic spot is located 76 kilometers from Fuzhou and is a key national site. The spot is a great attraction due to the nine mountain ranges that are held close together and stretch for a kilometer and has nine beautiful rivers running all over them in form of waterfalls, on the cliffs, from the valleys, deep canyons and springs. This is a unique combination and is enjoyed by every tourist. Asia’s biggest step waterfall is the Jiutian waterfall water curtain palace. Explore the Yuntian stone corridor, which is recognized as the highest corridor of stone.
Gu Mountain
The Gu Mountain is located around 17 kilometers of Fuzhou in the east and is situated beside Min River. The name Gu Mountain means “drum mountain” and sounds like a drum beat during rains. There is also a beautiful Yongquan temple at the foot of White cloud peak and was erected during the Five dynasties period. The temple has three state treasures that consist of the “pottery pagodas “and has 1000 images of Buddha. The second is the 10,000 Buddhist printing plates. The third is 657 copies that are written in blood by the monks.
Three lanes and seven alleys
This is another unique attraction in Fuzhou and you simply cannot leave without admiring this charming place. The place is located in the center of the city and comprises of ancient residential building, which are rare in modern china. The houses are uniquely built with symmetrical form across central north south axis. The distinctness of the place is the seashells used in building the houses, sand bricks from the beach, the north south base of dividing walls, while walls, green and gray roofs and bluestone laneways are some of the attraction that are worth seeing.
West Lake Park
This place has a historical importance as it was created in 265 to 420 in the Jin dynasty. The place has been a recreational center since the olden times. West Lake Park is a beautiful place with islets, pavilions with stunning looks, winding corridors etc. You can also see amusements and the entertainment park for children. Lots of other attractions can also be seen like the dyke fringed comprising of willow trees, Kahua temple that holds flower exhibitions frequently. Various pagodas are also a good attraction.
Xichan temple
This is a 15 storied temple that comprises of temples, 36 halls, great hall, hall of arhats, hall of deities, and pagodas. This is a huge structure and has architectural importance. You will also find lychee tree in plenty and is a very attractive site visited by various tourists. 2012-03-14
