Datong: brief description for tourists who wish to visit Datong
In the north of Shanxi Province, in China, its located Datong or "City of the Coal" and with a population of about 3,2 million people, is the 2nd largest city in Shanxi Province. Datong is a very beautiful city and has a great history. The most important attractions in Datong are the the Yungang Grottoes, the essence of the sculptures of ancient China and one of the 3 important groups cave in China. Very famous (and very interesting) is also the Hanging Monastery, the temple that seems attached to the mountain and stands out in a vacuum for his ingenuity. Set in the small basin of a deep canyon, with vertical walls on both sides over 328 feet, apparently set in the midst of a overhanging rock face, about 50 feet above the ground. The temple consists of 40 small pavilions and terraces connected by walkways suspended in the void, on which visitors are careful to lay his feet, holding their breath, fearing that an ill-placed foot can bring down the temple. Instead, despite the constant creaking of the wood, t it is secure to the wall. Lastly, the basic ingredient of the cuisine of Datong is the wheat flour. Local dishes are pizza flour, buckwheat flour rolls filled with meat steamed, soy cheese, pasta and oatmeal.
