Shangrao: brief description for tourists who wish to visit Shangrao Shangrao is located in the north-east of Jiangxi Province, between 27°34'-29°34' of north latitude, and 116°13'-118°29' of east longitude, Quzhou City of Zhejiang Province to the east, Wuyishan City of Fujian Province to the south, Huangshan City of Anhui Province to the north, Nanchang City to the west and next to Poyanghu Lake, and always be the place of "passageway of four provinces" and "the superior rich land". It occupies an area of 22.8 thousands square kms., has a population of 6.7 million. Shangrao which is the open city approved by the State Council, is the second biggest city of Jiangxi Province and one of the four important regional developing cities of the province.
As the earliest place with administrative system of Jiangxi Province, Shangrao has a long history of 2000 years from Qin Dynasty and has many world famous people like the Confucian Philosophy Zhu Xi in South Song Dynasty, Father of China railway Zhan Tianyou were all born in this land. It's also the residence of the painter Yan Liben, Tea Sage Luyu, famous official Fan Zhongyan and poet Xin Qiji. Shangrao also has many historic relics: the Immortal Cave and Diaotong Ring Relics are the earliest birthplaces of rice found in the world, the collections of Wuyuan Museum are brilliant. The operas of Yiyang Tune, Wuyuan Tea Art, Exorcising Dance and Taige Performance, the Geese Lake Institute and Xinjiang Institute are all the emblems of Shangrao's ancient culture. |
