More than 3,700 years ago, the ancient Emperor Tang of Shangdynasty set his capital at nowadays Bozhou; at AD 221, Cao Pi, the2nd emperor of Wei dynasty nominated Qiao (nowadays Bozhou) as theaccompanying capital and ranked it together with Xuchang, Chang'an,Luoyang and Yecheng as the "Five Capitals"' Liu Futong at the endYuan dynasty supported Han Lin'er to be the emperor and establishedthe Longfeng regime where Bozhou was selected as the capital.Therefore, Bozhou is also mentioned as "the ancient capital forthree dynasties". In 1986, Bozhou obtained its nowadays name as acounty-level city and was listed as a famous Chinese cultural andhistorical city by the State Council at December of that year.
